I thought of the word Charisma before it was mentioned in this novel, and it was only used once. WOW, this is a wonderful story...I enjoyed getting to know Athena through those that knew her. The end was surprising and I'm happy the way it turned out!

When a person thinks of the word 'witch' they automatically think of something that isn't good. I even thought this, wondering if this was about cultish beliefs and such...but I was totally wrong. I'm happy that I was lead to this book after reading

The first thing that came into my mind as I read the first 80 or so pages of this book was going to Grateful Dead shows. The imagery of Athena (and others) finding their spirituality, or connection to something greater than themselves, through music and dancing was so reminiscent for me of watching Deadheads dance at a show.

It's very natural to say that every people has individual mind. This book remind us to not judge people because of what they do, where they came from, the roots of their life, the looks, what they have. What people do, there must be reason behind the reaction.

From the beginning, Paulo brought us to some peoples opinion/perspectiv

As an avid fan of Mr Coelho, I feel that he has, once again, instilled a wealth of wisdom into this unique book, The Witch of Portobello. I particularly like his unconventional writing style of presenting the main protagonist through the eyes of other characters associated with her in one way or another. Besides, I also found that the end is very surprising and totally unpredictable. It made me smile just when I, too, realised that "Love simply is". ...more

Refreshing style. Good twist at the end. As usual, I learned a lot of things from Paolo Coelho. The story reminds me of an experience here in the Philippines with a group that comes together to pray/dance, a practice that is called Innerdance.
