What Members Thought
Quite an ambitious attempt to reveal all the intrique and deception to gain power over church and state. Brother William is summoned by the abbot to investigate suspicion of heresy. Eco's first novel is quite extensive history of the 14th century Catholic church's philosophy and practices. Sometimes too wordy for me. The friendship of Brother Williams and his scribe, Abso, is entertaining and touching. It is their conversations and adventures that make the book worthwhile to read.
