I thought of the Andrea Yates case right away. It is so sad to imagine how the children must have felt in the final moments of their lives. I don’t know if I feel sympatric towards mothers who kill their children … I certainly have a heart for children who are abused, or suffer through life (and death) at the hands of depressive parents. I think this had the potential to be a good book about post-partum depression but the author missed the mark. This is a modern day story of a woman with learning disablilities, who has depression issues. I keep asking myself, where was her "good" sister and her doctors, when this woman keeps getting pregnant (9 times) in 10 years of marriage. She miscarried 5 times. There were obvious issues but no one got this woman help. I might have liked this book better if it had been told from Simone's poi ...more
