Maria Celeste was a saint. Given to the convent at a very young age, she lived a life of sacrifice yet the letters she wrote her father told of little complaint. There were times she mentioned hunger, sickness, and cold but she seemed to accept the cloistered lifestyle fairly well. Her style of writing was eloquent and reflected her intelligence. I didn't finish this book and I just had to quit. I think the book should have been named Galileo and letters from his daughter. I just felt like I was reading to finish this book for the book club and I was not retaining anything. I like plot driven books and this was a book about ideas and the rule of the Catholic Church in the time of Galileo. If you are interested in scientific ideology this book may interest you but I just got bored. I did read over half of the book so I did give it a fair ...more
