Santiago's struggle with the fish was most memorable to me because of the conversations he had in his head with himself , the sea, birds, the marlin, and the sharks. Hemingway writes the majority of his narrative from the conscious thoughts of Santiago and makes you feel as if you are experiencing the conflict yourself. When Santiago puts himself in the mind of the fish and speculates on the feelings the fish has, it's like an “inside perspective” inside of an “inside perspective.”

I have just started reading Hemingway and I enjoyed this book. To me it is the story of life, struggling for success while watching dreams and youth pass by. It shows the perserverance of a time before fast food and instant gratification.
