This is the first mystery of this type that I have read in a long time and I really enjoyed it. Flavia de Luce is a remarkable 11 year old girl with a vivid imagination and keen mind. When her father it arrested for murder of a stranger found dead in the cucumber garden Flavia goes to work to defend her father's innocence. Flavia De Luce is a typical 11 year old of the 50s. She is picked on by her older sisters, ignored by adults, except Dogger, and inquisitive about everything in her world. When she finds a dead man in her back yard and her father is arrested, Flavia goes about trying to find out who really did the deed.
