I did not like this book. I thought it was very depressing and I did not get why the author even put some of the characters in the story. I realize he was trying to make a point but there was just not much that was inspiring about this book. Many of the plot twists were unbelievable and the only two characters who were remotely interesting are Batman and Little Bee. Lawrence was a complete waste of paper and if Sarah was such a strong woman, I don't believe she would have picked 2 weak self-serv ...more

Scenes from this novel are certainly horrific. I wonder how the characters could make it though terrible times, such as the scene on the beach in Nigeria. I don't know how Sara had the strength to lose her finger. I can only imagine how Charlie felt about losing his dad. Little Bee has terrible memories, but she continues to smile because she is alive today. Then again, she looks everywhere she goes for a way to end her life rather than let herself be taken by "the men." The author does a good j ...more

Little Bee was not a book I would have chosen to read. That is why I really like the book club as it kind of forces me to read so many different types of books. The story of Little Bee was so sad and really opened my eyes to happenings I never think about. The bond between the two women was caused by some terrible events. And, although the book skips around a lot it's easy to keep up with the characters and it's necessary to understand the kind of life that Little Bee had. The ending is not what ...more
