What Members Thought

This book is the first in Pullman’s trilogy, known as “His Dark Materials.” It made the banned book list, because it is believed to promote atheistic views. The symbolism in the story can be interpreted many ways, but I chose to take the story as purely fantasy and didn’t read in to all the “hidden messages.”

I absolutely loved this book!! There was action, fighting, and adventure that kept me turning the pages constantly. Lyra Belacqua is supposedly an orphan who lives at Jordan College where her uncle occasionally visits. On one of his visits she overhears the Scholars talking about Dust. Mysterious kidnappings of children in the area, including Lyra's best friend, sends her on a journey to the North.
