Storm Born in the first installment in the Dark Swan series by the amazing Richelle Mead. I've been a fan of Richelle Mead since the first book I've read from her, Succubus Blues in her Georgina Kincaid series. I love every book she's written and cannot wait for her newest in all three of her series. And even though Richelle Mead's covers and plots sound like the usual's, they really aren't. She always writes a unique story and she has a great style that keeps you wanting more!

She always writes a unique story and she has a great style that keeps you wanting more!

Storm Born follows Eugenie Markham and it's written in the first person. I was absolutely hooked from page one. Eugenie is a strong, sexy character who was raised by her mother and stepfather in the Arizona desert. Eugenie's stepfather taught her how to be a shaman and follow in his footsteps. She's really good at it and so the Otherworld Gentry are naturally afraid of her.
At the start of the book she helps take away the odds and ends that the world would find irritating. Such as banishing spirits( for a fee) and of the like just like any other corporate in her business. She's also got a secretary, who her roommate never gets along with. But soon after Eugenie has begun to find that things seem to be different in her world. For a start, most of the spirits and fey seem less interested in killing her (which she could understand maybe) and more in romancing her(which only confuses her).. And secondly, they all seem to know her name now. Then she meets a hot one night stand that turns out to be more and the hot Kiyo also turns out to be a shape-shifter.
Dorian, who is also a man in the picture somewhat, is a handsome Faery King who is sure of himself and what Eugenie is and will be. I found myself really liking Dorian. He's attitude could be questionable, but I took to him from the start.
So, between the tension of the men and the fey who want her for unsolicited reasons she also has to deal with a new way of life that are hard on her principles.

Synopsis:

Eugenie Markham is a shaman and a mercenary, but that's not all she is. In the first of the Dark Swan series, she finds out more about her origins and begins a journey to fulfill, or not, her destiny. Kiyo Marquez, a kitsune (fox) shifter, and Dorian, a fae king, play pivotal rolls in her adventures.

I really enjoy Richelle Mead's writing style and thought this was a great start to another series. She always seems to think of somthing that no one else has. I love how the story progressed and there are certainly a number of twists and turns along the way. I will say I didn't care for Kiyo much, but I loved Dorian!

It's much easier to write a review when I hated the book. I loved Storm Born and pretty much everything about it, so it's kind of hard. I thought the characters were well done and there were just enough to keep it interesting without getting confusing. I wish she had ended up with Dorian, but Kiyo was okay too :) ...more

I would've never read past page 50 had it been written by someone else. But I love Richelle Mead and trust her and well I'm not disappointed It turned out to be a promising start to a good series. It doesn't seem to be as good as Georgina Kincaid or Vampire Academy series, not yet anyway but it's interesting. Unfortunately I fell for the wrong angle of the Love Triangle-AGAIN: Dorian. Dorian is the equivalent of Adrien and Roman in this series. ...more
