Although I haven't read the next book, I feel like there was a lot devoted to setting up the next book. I don't mind that if the series has an overall arc, but it was setting up the HEA for the next book, and I just wanted to get to the one in this book. 3 1/2 (rounded to 4) stars

3/26/10- I have to say that I'm not sure what I got emotional about previously, but that was not the case this time. I couldn't really remember why I wasn't a fan of Rhage before this re-read, but now I know. He got cheated! There is practically no back story about him and a lot of the later half is setting up the romance for the next book. Not to mention the other reason he never really stands out is because after this book it seems there wasn't much to say about him. Since his original claim to fame was the amount of anonymous sex he had, and now he has his HEA, it seems he gets shoved to the back. As a character he is underused and a little underdeveloped. 4 stars

3/15/11-Hmm- 3rd read. I look back at the past two reviews and I just have to believe that the better I know the rest of the series the more it effects the way I feel about the book because on this 3rd read I think I liked the book less that I did previously, although I got more out of it.

This time I also stopped and wrote as I read:
I'm a little more that 1/2 through my 3rd read and I have to say this now because I suspect that if I ever noticed it before I am sucked in by the ending, but man oh man I don't like Mary. She comes off early on somewhere between heartless and drama queen. And all this strength that they keep saying she has, I'm not really seeing. I mean she survived the cancer the first time, but that's not what she's displaying now. A fighter would believe she was going to beat the disease again, instead, she is scared and avoiding the situation- but not in the way that people do when they are determined to defeat it. She is hiding behind the disease to keep herself separate from the world. Pushing everyone away so she doesn't get hurt.

And another thing. Super intuitive Mary absolutely missed the ball. Her and Bella are chatting and Bella asks about Z. And from the way Bella asks and then down plays it comes across in at least a way that says maybe she's interested.. And Mary doesn't think he's as bad as he seems. So why does she decide to try to play match maker with Phury? And the way she tries to push Phury at her? I've decided that I'm angry with Mary for the pain Phury ends up enduring over the whole Bella thing.

Now I'm at the end of the book and I know why I always give Mary a pass. Because by the end she's tamed Rhage's beast and everything is all happy. But man, the way she treats him early on? I know almost all the women do something stupid, but she was downright mean to Rhage at times and he just took it.

I also realized, the reason I always struggle with this book, is because it bores me. What I mean is, Mary & Rhage's story isn't very interesting. I don't get any real backstory on Rhage, except that he was fully a drunk & disorderly type and he accidentally let some female kill a bird with his gun and got cursed. And we only get that in the last 40 pages. I never really get to know Rhage. His character is underdeveloped and then we never really see him again. And Mary is treated like the biggest gift to vampire kind. I just don't like it.

By the time we get just past halfway through, the focus starts to shift to Z's book and that stuff is intriguing. Pealing back the layers of Z is fascinating.

Questions that come to my mind at the end of this book? What happened to Caith? I thought she might become someone of interest. She likes to sleep with Brothers... which ones? We know Rhage always turns her down and V had bathroom sex with her but brothers implies more than one. Plus at the end her brother is taken, tortured and killed. She has a connection to the brothers no matter how slight, so why wasn't a bigger deal made about it. Or why wasn't it mentioned at all? And then, what happened to her? We never hear about her again. ...more

I've never ever cried like this during a book before, tears of sadness and then joy. I would have died if it ended differently.

I really really loved this one, Rhage and Mary's parts were perfect and well, erotic and extremely hot LOL. John's parts were so mysterious and thrilling. Bella's were short but really entertaining. If I thought I loved Dark Lover, Lover Eternal just got even better. Perhaps it's that I'm more familiar with the characters and the world, but I really loved this book. I've recently read two other PNR series that have a similar format (a group of men whose love stories are told in one book, then continue to another story in the next book etc).
