I purchased this book long before I started reading it. I heard about how good it was but I saw the cover and the first few pages and gave up on it for a few months. I took it out again few days ago and told myself to give it another try. My friend Katherine read it last May and loved it. So I tried it again.

I was suprised by how good it was. Within 15 pages it drew me in, making me sure I wasn't going to stop reading it again this time. The detials and writing structure both caught my eye. I loved the main character, Katniss. She showed power and a tomboy-like style that interested me. She knew how to hunt, to fight, and to run a whole family by herself. Her personality made me feel for her. The story kept going on and we meet Gale. I personally like the kid. He's eighteen and a hunter. He's handsome and loved but he and Katniss are best friends. His attitude is also interesting. The Reaping day continues on and then Prim's name gets pulled from the ball of names. I knew what was going to happen before it did. Katniss, seeing her sister up there with a look of determination on her face, rushes to volunteer to be a Tribute. She saves her little sister and becomes a Tribute for The Hunger Games. And we soon discover Peeta Mellark is chosen to be the other Tribute for the boys side. He's sixteen, with ash blond hair and blue eyes. Now they must fight againist each other because they have both been selected for The Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games is where the government, The Capitol, takes two kids from each District. A boy and a girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen are brought to an unkown place called The Arena where they fight to the death. The last one standing wins. But the Capitol doesn't just want people to die because they add special affects and add problems for the Tributes to face. Like a forest fire, shortage of water, sudden weather changes. Alliances can be only temporaily made, knowing that eventually one of them will have to kill the other for the game to end.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a suprisingly amazing book. It's filled with action, suspense, romance, trust--all woven greatly into a storyline that caught my eye quickly. There's fighting and gore so I'd give this book a 13+ age line. There's injuries and killing that isn't very fun to read about but is still good. There's a romance that goes throughout the story that is very cute and confusing at the same time. I'd say that if you like action, adventure, mystery, suspense, thrills, or romance--to read this book. You won't regret it, I can tell you that. ...more

its a good book but while i was reading how the tributes are wasted i was told that someone in my family died its weird but wat's weirder i started to crack up. i couldnt breathe from all that laughing and my mom got pissed off at me ...more
