It good to see a fantasy novel not set in a feudalistic European type world. I do wish this Middle Eastern fantasy world was more engaging for me. I ended up speed reading through all the endless descriptive padding and soap opera relationships.
The female protagonist is first a strong, clever thief and then she's insecure, indecisive healer, then smart and devious when forced into an engagement to the prince. It read like a paranormal romance without the sex. I just wanted to slap the girl.
