What can I say? There are no surprises here; the story of the Holocaust has been well-enough documented, and I've seen enough dramatisations and documentaries to know what happened. I was shocked that, in the introduction, Elie Wiesel explains how difficult it was to get his book published: "the subject was considered morbid and interested no one." Amazing. I read this book because it was on one of the "100 Books to Read Before You Die" lists. I like reading books from this list because it introduces me to authors and subjects I otherwise wouldn't read about.
