This was an ok read - somewhat light reading, but interesting historical fiction nonetheless. The basic plot of the story is based on actual historical people & events in the late 1500's / early 1600's Indian Mughal empire, however little is actually / factually known about the main character, Mehrunnisa, as women did not have a large role in the "public sphere" at that time in history. A wonderful read. It sweeps you into Indian (specifically Mughal)history and it really captured my imagination in the way it showed the power that women had both in the zenana and outside. I was unaware of some of these strong historical figures because of their gender. Very nicely based in real history.
