Written in 2002, right after the Taliban had been dethroned, this book seems very relevant again now, over two decades later, with the Taliban back in power. An insight into a tradition-based society*, rife with corruption, nepotism, misogyny, ignorance, banality, and violence, but also a rich history, and many lovely and loving people. It was an interesting book, maybe not as important as the hype would lead you to believe but interesting, nonetheless. Apparently, the 'bookseller' has sued the author, for 'invasion of privacy'.
If you're looking for an in-depth, behind the scenes, view of Afghanistan, surely, there must be better books out there than this one.
