This was a 3.5 star read for me. I found the idea of the Dark and Light with their treaty and their watches fascinating. I liked the characters as well. The translation felt a bit uneven at first, especially during dialogue, but once I got immersed in the story it didn't bother me much. ...more

If I were an expert on fantasy, I would put this book on a shelf called urban fantasy. I liked this book very much. There is absurdal humour, love and fight between good and evil.

Having lived 3 years in Moscow, this book was fun for me just from the aspect that I could really picture the settings and the locations very well. I also like the paranormal aspect, the blurring between "good" and "evil." Before seeing the movie of the same name, I wasn't even aware that there was a contemporary Russian author in the "sci-fi/fantasy" genre.

What I appreciated the most, having HAD to read a lot of classic-Russian lit for my college degree, was that Lukyanenko did NOT get caught

I half read this book and had to put it down. The writing didn't flow well and I lost myself in other thoughts as the story just didn't capture my imagination. There are so many good reviews for this book on GR, so perhaps at a later date I will make another attempt. I gave three stars for the concept and originality of the world Lukyanenko built. ...more

¿No les pasa a veces que son las 4am de domingo y están despiertos y se les hace razonable leer un libro y a las 7 lo terminan pero ya que se van a dormir descubren que es parte de una serie y la verdad si está entretenido pero sus ojos sangran?
Bueno, pues mis ojos sangran pero esta serie no se va a leer sola así que yay monstruos.
