Amazing book. I expected something very difficult, that I would have to slog through. Was I ever surprised! This book blew me out of the water!
P.S. I have been thinking about this a lot. I read this book and loved it. But was I missing something because I didn't read it in Russian? Or, the better question is, how MUCH of it's awesomeness am I missing because I'm reading it in English?

Baaah....just can't get through it. What happened to the fascinating soubrette in The Family Happiness, driving forward the plot and sucking the oxygen out of an already claustrophobic atmosphere with just a flick of her wrist and the arch of an eyebrow? And where is all the captivating action from War and Peace? Mrs Karenina just doesn't deliver...the scenery creaks as the flats are wheeled out, new ones shunted on but the players and the situation remain the same: opulent, ossified and detache

Good thing I read the book before I saw the film. The film is appalling, one of the worst book-to-film adaptations I've ever seen.
