After reading Les Misérables, its legacy and credence of being a great book has become quite apparent to me. Although I have read very little of Victor Hugo, I immediately recognize his style for detailed characterization of both the people and the places themselves. It is easy to fall head-over-heels for the characters in this novel, as so much thought and narrative is added to each one, no matter their importance.
