I was pleased to open this book as one of the picks during a year + with the "Postal Book Swap F" group. This is our second year send books around and the picks are entirely secret until everyone has seen everything.

I had previously read and enjoyed Americanah and always thought I might go back and read Adichie's previous works. I also have Half of a Yellow Sun on my shelf, unread.

Well written but not as enjoyable as half of a yellow sun. A look into Nigerian society but doesn't take on the same larger themes. ...more

I really enjoyed reading this and was thoroughly pulled into the characters, the story, the setting. I liked the insights into Nigerian city life and the visit to the village setting. The obsessively Christian household routine was intriguing, and the domestic abuse delicately handled.

Format: I read the UK paperback which has a stiff spine and rough paper. I had to fold the cover back brutally so that the book would lie flat. The cover design is not what is pictured here; a boring soft-focus ph

I loved this novel and its main character, Kambili. I’ve read Adichie’s best known novel, Americanah, which was in some ways more ambitious and impressive but this was a lovely story with characters and situations that stay with you.
