This book is like a punch in the stomach, it puts your glasses on and makes you see the human nature on a 360 angle. Really the hardest to digest book I read so far. Saramago is a genius, and his writing style keeps you addicted to an atmosphere which on the other hand you can’t wait to escape. I consider myself fortunate to have read this book now, in these Covid times, as I think Saramago’s perception about humanity are confirmed now more than ever in the last decades.

Fantastic! I could not stop reading. What a great and sometimes scary story. A description of a society, crisis, human condition, full of ambiguity. I loved the relationship between the real and the symbolic...
