I have mixed feelings toward this book. On one hand, it was easy to keep reading. I flew through it and never had trouble going to the next chapter, although I enjoyed the parts with Nakata much more than the parts about Kafka. I liked Nakata very much. On the other hand, I was never completely pulled into the world of the book and felt that the author didn't always do a good job of walking the line between real and archetypical characters. (I felt the same way about Valente's Deathless).

Besides, 'Harry Potter', 'Kafka on the Shore' has been my second venture into the realm of supernatural fiction. Primarily, it is the effortless flow of the lives of two discreet people namely, Kafka Tamura and Nakata, into one another aided by the supernatural that becomes the center of attraction for this novel.
