Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship
This book captivated me for several days, and I fully enjoyed it despite its faults. As anyone stumbling across this review probably knows, this book is about the building of a cathedral in 12th century England and spans several decades. It features Prior Philip of the monastery building the cathedral, the family of builders who direct the work, and the local nobility. This was a long book - very long, even - and it’s remarkable in many ways that it still managed to keep my attention, since religious subjects are also not really my thing. I’ll admit, some of the architecture descriptions were a bit long-winded in my opinion and in the bit with Jack and burning down the church, I spent some time thinking kid, just do it already. But in general, I was really drawn into the story the whole time.
