This book is fine, but not good enough to deserve being as long as it is. I think my boyfriend put it well: 'Its a book for people who take a year to read it and forget that things keep being repeated.' With all the contrived plotting and conspiring, again and again and again, it just ends up feeling self indulgent.

I really enjoyed this historical fiction novel set in medieval England, although I think it might have been better if it had been at least 200 pages shorter. It was long, but it was divided into different parts that represented several years' time, so you could read it in sections to make the length more bearable. Not that I don't like long books, but this one just seemed like it went on longer than it needed to.

This was a re-read for me. I must have read this when it first came out - years ago! I had often told people about the book, but couldn't remember the name. Now, it is popular after Follett published World Without End. The second time through was just as captivating as the first.

Very engrossing with interesting characters. The book took some interesting twists and turns. I couldn't quite follow the architecture. It would have been nice to have a primer on the side while reading the book. A good book to read over the holidays when you are looking to disappear.

This was a long book - very long, even - and it’s remarkable in many ways that it still managed to keep my attention, since religious subjects are also not really my thing. I’ll admit, some of the architecture descriptions were a bit long-winded in my opinion and in the bit with Jack and burning down the church, I spent some time thinking kid, just do it already. But in general, I was really drawn into the story the whole time.

One of my favorites! Gave it to my almost "non-reader" hubby and he can't put it down. Success!

It's pretty addictive but the writing is so primitive that i feel kinda sick of it after finishing 1000 pages of this blablabla ...
