This book is so very dense that there is not much I even want to say to accurately and exactly describe the type of story you will experience; whatever words I can conjure would not be enough. Even though it's set in India, I noticed a lot of similarities to Latin American culture and literature. Definitely would consider it magic realism. Another book I purchased in the late 1990's, tried to read several times and put it down each time. I am a fan of south asian lit and authors, so I really tried to read this book, but I just couldn't. It is now in the thrift bookstore world.
