I've been wanting to write a review to this book ever since I finished it. It's one of those jewel of a books that I have so much feeling for, but in the end I have to admit that I'm just at lost for words. You just need to read it for yourself to find out.

Wow. A wonderful book. The characters are so rich and the plot is delivered at a nice steady pace. But, this is not a cheery book. It tells the tale of four people living in India during "The Emergency" in the 1970's. We follow their lives before they meet, and while they know eachother, and what happens to them after they drift apart. It IS a fine balance between hope and despair.

Beautiful but sad. I don't even know what the best mood would be for one to start this book. If you are in a bad mood it will depress you even more and if you are in a good mood it's sure to run it. But it is a book worth reading... at one point.
