Finally finished this. It's quite a piece of work, and I can't even begin to imagine how Grass wrote it. Everything in this book is so entangled. It's hard to pin-point where Ocasr's guilt ends and his humor begins. And even the most grotesque acts of violence take on a perverse sort of beauty. Another book that really is well worth the effort of struggling through the German original. Guenther Grass disproves the old saying that German humour is heavy handed. This book manages to be grotesque, bizarre, shocking and at times intensely funny.
Definitely recommended for anyone wanting to know more about how German intellectuals have tried to understand and comment on the Nazi period

It's my fault that I've seen the movie too many times before I tried to read it, so I can't not picture the movie's images. I can't stick with this though I know I should.

Humorous story about a three-year-old boy who doesn't want to become an adult and stops to grow. It's a little absurdal, but it's good.
