I normally wouldn't waste my time finishing a book I disliked this much, but the subject was interesting and it started out well. Once there was an explosion I was hooked, but as the book went on the more ridiculous it got. It has stupid subplots that had NOTHING to do with the main plot, easy to predict "twists" and stereotypical characters that brought nothing to the book. This novel about bonobos who have learned to communicate using ASL and about the humans around them is pretty interesting. I wasn't quite as engaged with this as with Water for Elephants, but the more I got into the story the better I liked it. The ending seemed a little rushed and entirely too pat, but for people who like stories about animals, this one is pretty good. Even the pit bull is kind of a cute character. ...more
