When I started reading this book, or listening to it, rather, I was surprised that I hadn't picked it up earlier. It is so my type of book, with a tough heroine, a dystopia setting, a sorta love story... My brother even told me to read it, saying I would like it. But I distrusted him, since we don't share the same tastes in book (or so I thought).

I'm not going to summarize today, because I don't think it's necessary to enjoy it. In fact, I started reading this book, knowing nothing about it.

Katniss, is the perfect, imperfect heroine. She is tough and a survivor, but she has her weaknesses, such as her questionable healing abilities and her lack of a heart, at times. I really liked her, and hope to see more of her, though that would only mean that more bad things are bound to happen. Peeta is a dear. Considering he's the baker's son, and kinda "soft" compared to Katniss, I was surprised to find him pretty attractive on his own right. He was a sweet guy, who lived a relatively privileged life, and he managed to survive the hunger games (of course, only because of Katniss). Oh, that was a spoiler, but whatevs, he's not supposed to die.

Katniss's relationships with the other characters were well done. My favorite was Cinna, who somehow lost any screentime during the end of the book, but I liked him a lot. The other tributes were also nicely formed and Ms. Collins doesn't impose stereotypes on them.

What pissed me off the most was the Capitol imposing these games on the people. I don't understand why anyone would accept children being chosen, to be trained into killers for public entertainment. It's sick and of course, fictional, but I want to know why it's happening. The killings, I never expected to feel so much during them.

Overall, this was an amazing read and I would recommend it to everyone. I felt like I was reading a updated version of Lord of the Flies, with a happier ending and female characters. It has so much worth than all the other YA lit being sold in the millions, though, I can understand how it's not exactly uplifting reading. This is definitely one of the best series in the world, if they make a movie of it I'm camping out in front of the theater. Honestly starting off reading this I was a little wary on where it was going. I tend to like books more about romance. I wasn't even sure what the gender was at the beginning. this book was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! it was SO edge of your seat and aaaaaaaaaaah it was cool!!!!!!

AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I CANNOT BELIEVE SHE ENDED IT WITH THAT CLIFFY!!!!!!!!!

can't wait to read the second one which i should be doing soon.

the reason i gave it four stars is because there are certain things that happen in the book that i don't agree with - just certain scenes. if they weren't there i prob. would have given this five stars, because minus those scenes it is a VERY good book.

GODDAMN IT THEY LEFT ME WITH A FUCKING CLIFF HANGER!!!! *cries* shit!

*sigh* I started to cry when Rue died, and I cried several times when I thought Peeta was going to die. And then I cried at the end, when Peeta starts to thinkshe doesn't have feelings for him, and starts pushing her away. *sigh* I suppose I'm going to have to read the next book now... :( ...more

At first i was unsure about this book because i love reading mainly YA or Adult paranormal romance series ever since after reading the twilight saga :P

But i'm happy that i gave this book a chance because it was so dffrent and AMAZING! :D ...more
