Despite its unappealingly choppy sentences, its neverending use of 'I really did', 'it really did', and the use of profanities laced into every single paragraph of this book, I really enjoyed The Catcher and the Rye. Seeing life through the eyes of Holden Caulfield, while not exactly glamorous, was definitely a perspective that I'd never seen through before. I liked this book, but I didn't love it. Holden is a depressed teenager that is trying to find his way though life. I can't even count how many times it said "And it depressed me." or "He or she is a phony." The storyline immediately reminded me of Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock , Leonard strongly resembles Holden with his discontent with the world around him. There were even small specific details that was so similar like women handing out pamphlets on Christianity. I think the strong ...more
