The only way to catch the subtlety of L'Etranger is to read it in French. This book will annoy many, frustrate some, and inspire others. You simply cannot know until you read it. Every few years, I find myself pulling out my dog-eared college copy and hearing the voice of my French Literature Professor calmly leading me through the strange world of the protagonist.

Mate, what a bloody ripper. This American translation was on point. The apathetic interior of our stranger was strangely familiar to my own. His reasoning when in court about feeling sidelined and mitigated is, at least to me, a beautiful way of challenging the very basis if universal truths like justice.
