The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) in The Silver Mockingjay

I couldn't even begin to review this book because I was so afraid of dishonoring it with my own stumbling words.

In the vague future of North America, Katniss Everdeen scrapes a simple living from the earth with her best friend Gale whilst living in District 12, the poorest and the last district. We meet Katniss on the day of the Reaping, the day when they choose a girl and a boy from each district to participate in the anuall Hunger Games, a live telivised event in which every person in the cou I couldn't even begin to review this book because I was so afraid of dishonoring it with my own stumbling words.

In the vague future of North America, Katniss Everdeen scrapes a simple living from the earth with her best friend Gale whilst living in District 12, the poorest and the last district. We meet Katniss on the day of the Reaping, the day when they choose a girl and a boy from each district to participate in the anuall Hunger Games, a live telivised event in which every person in the country of Panem must watch. The Hunger Games has been practiced for over 70 years as a way of punishing the 12 districts for they're past uprisings against the government, now centered as a shinning city simply called the Capitol. Katniss lives and breaths her little sister, Prim. So what does she do when Prim gets chossen for the Hunger Games? She takes her place of coarse! To make things worse, Peeta Mellark is the boy from her district, the boy who kept her family from starving one winter, and also the boy who has been holding something inside he's never dared to tell Katniss before.

The book potrays a world that our world could become, a world were the government rules everything, including weather you live or die. Were children of desperate families are forced to participate in a barbaric ordeal where there can only be one surviver. Katniss feals dull to these things for the most part, she takes them as something that has been and can't be stopped, but when opportunity arrises to defy the system and break free of the chains she must deside what her coarse of action will be and weather or not she will defy the system.

The book dances about issues such as what we watch on the tube. What really goes on in reality telivision? What do people really give up when they choose to participate. How far will the people go in order to get they're daily dosses of intertainment. The people of the Capitol seem ginuinly numb to the reality of life and death, even when they personally know the contestant going into the Hunger Games. It's just another couple weeks of nail bitting interainment that they can't wait for every year.

Oh, so out of it this evening, yet so into this book. Packed with drama, romance, passion, empathy, grittiness, love, survival, issues, and more this book packs a blow that many of us sucumb to, especially in the fact that it is so... real. The writting is so convincing that you get tied into a world that is wholly not your own, yet you can see it becoming similar. Everything is painted out like a portrait, but there is room for the the imagination to fill in the gaps. Much like C. S. Lewis she doesn't explain every detail but lets us assume what's there, or come up with something completely of our own.

On a last note all I can say is though you may be in of doubt the prose, it's orrigonality, it's violence, but it is beautifully written. Katniss does what she needs to to survive but does it with a heart. There is more to it than just outragous actions. There is a soul in there, and she, Katniss Everdeen, has something to say. ...more
