It was written so beautifully, and it just sucks you in, I felt as if I was there along with the character. The ending is so perfect. I'm so happy I read this book. Stunning.

I really wanted to like this book. I really, really did. And although I did still like some elements of it, there was just so much unnecessary and extremely graphic (and disgusting) sexual content that it really spoiled a lot of the rest of the good things the plot contained. I don't mind reading about sex but it just seemed like Gruen was trying way too hard to be "edgy" or whatever - there was even more than one time when Jacob came across people who were just having sex on the ground and it w

I am not a circus fan, but I loved this book. There were things I didn't quite understand in the movie that were explained in the book. I did feel like I was transported to another world, and I never thought I would enjoy the Depression era so much.
