For the first half of Sarah's Key, I was convinced I would give this book 5 stars: I was gripped by the awful power of this tragic story and de Rosnay's extremely skillful telling. However, with two protagonists (Sarah and Julia) it was inevitable that I would be more captivated by one than the other. Julia's story was strong, but it just couldn't compete with Sarah's.
