Kids playing games. Great. Not exactly a kids book. Card builds up a thorough picture of each of the main characters and shows their flaws and their strengths, making the reader care about each of them. This first Ender book sets up the background story with lots of action and lends itself as a brilliant platform for the following books, which have a much more philosophical tone. This is the second book I've read in the "Ender's Game", series and I enjoyed it just as much as "Ender's Game". So far, I've yet to read a book in this "Enderverse", in which Card has lost any thunder. Each book makes keeps me entertained and triggers different emotions. I'm planning on reading the series through to the end (pun intended completely). I will probably read all of Card's short stories after all of the novels. some how even thought i love enders game this is just better.

The companion book to Ender's Game tells the story of Bean. I liked seeing how the Ender's Game story could be told from another perspective. This sets up the events for following the other Battle School children when the return to Earth.
