I've loved the movie for years but never read the book until now. The movie was a loving, faithful adaptation that really brought life to the characters and the situations, but of course, the book had the chance to delve a little deeper, present more complex characters and even included a few characters and words and situations that were completely missing from the movie.

Wonderful book. Very touching and poignant. I feel terrible that I labored under the delusion for years that this book was terrible and figure somehow I must pay a book penance for bad mouthing it for years. I was wrong and I now eat my humble pie in the corner-I did mistake this for Inherit the Wind, but still I feel bad. Highly recommend this one and it is a book that will stay with me for quite awhile.

This is a wonderful book! I don't recall reading it in school, a thing a lot of people find hard to believe, all of my english teachers were a bit odd looking back a the years. Is a book I will be sure my kids read. Loved it! A truly well written book! ...more

Wonderful classic. I had not read it before, and am glad I finally did. Very interesting, well written and easy to see why it is often quoted and referenced.
