I know I am in the minority when I say I hate this book. While I understand it's an allegory for the Russian Revolution and gives us a significant lesson in communism, the story line just does not do it for me. I feel that lesson could have been taught using a better, more interesting plot.

I was given this book as a reading assignment in 9th grade. Eleven years later, I still have a seething hate for this book. I read the first 20 pages and told my teacher that I refused to read one more page. I

This was a very interesting book to read. While it's a satire of Stalin's behavior after the Russian Revolution, I couldn't help but see similar storylines all over the world, both in government and business. Sadly, we live in a world where the quest for power causes an "elite" few to use propaganda, misinformation, and exploitation to control the uneducated masses. While Orwell was able to analyze the problem with totalitarianism and with where his beloved socialism had ended, he did not appear to see any solution to the problem of the human (and sinful) desire to lord it over others.
