Popular for a reason! Loved this more re-reading it for pleasure than for classwork. Obviously, it made an impression on me as a kid the first time I read this adventure story about going after treasure, especially Long John Silver and his menacing parrot. But this time through, I marveled at Jim Hawkins, the boy who outwits the pirates and spins the yarn at the bidding of the squire and the doctor who accompany him on the ill-fated voyage. This book seems to be aimed at kids, so I thought it would be a really easy and fun read. Even though it is very short, it took me months to finish it.
It was difficult for me to get the language and I didn't understand everything that happened. Also, the story was darker than I expected and it failed to captivate me.
I liked the tone of the narration and the way the main character was involved in the story despite himself.
Maybe a reread would allow me to understand appreciate this book more. ...more
