Popular for a reason! Loved this more re-reading it for pleasure than for classwork. Obviously, it made an impression on me as a kid the first time I read this adventure story about going after treasure, especially Long John Silver and his menacing parrot. But this time through, I marveled at Jim Hawkins, the boy who outwits the pirates and spins the yarn at the bidding of the squire and the doctor who accompany him on the ill-fated voyage. This book was absolutely a favorite growing up inspiring many Halloween costumes and many stories centered around treasure maps, gold, parrots, pirate ships, hooks, and wooden legs. I wouldn't say I was quite as enthralled as an adult re-reading this book, but I found it quite enjoyable.
