I wonder if I would have enjoyed this book more with a different title. It purports to be “essays exploring an American obsession with dead girls”. It is not that. It’s a directionless set of essays that summarize, but don’t really analyze, relatively obscure pieces of culture. Sherman Alexie’s 1996 novel Indian Killer, teen horror movie Ginger Snaps, and every goddamn word Joan Didion ever put to print are featured heavily.
