This is not exactly a thriller and not exactly a book about chess.

The main character is a chess player and we are told a few facts about chess, in passing. I enjoyed a few of the chess references, but the number of references was far fewer than what I expected. I would have liked a lot more chess references.

The tone of the book is light-hearted for the most part. It is not an engrossing psychological thriller. It's more like a light hearted mystery where we follow our chess-coach-cum-detective
