I know that a lot of people didn't like this particular installment in Richter's adventure due to the content. That is actually not why I docked it a star, the content in my opinion was spot on with the rest of the series after the first book. The biggest issue with this book for me is the inconsistencies that got through. Basically up to this point the story has been relatively accurate and repeatable with a few minor exceptions. This book on the other hand has several inconsistencies. At one p I know that a lot of people didn't like this particular installment in Richter's adventure due to the content. The biggest issue with this book for me is the inconsistencies that got through. Basically up to this point the story has been relatively accurate and repeatable with a few minor exceptions. This book on the other hand has several inconsistencies. At one point he describes in detail the amount of mana regen that Alma has after she summoned a mist worker. Then later in the same book he wrote about how he actually didn't know the rate and then began to describe it after she gained a new ability. The 2 values were not the same. At one point he described being able to subconsciously assign all of his unused mana pool regen after 100% be assigned to a new ability, although later he describes having to start the process. He also describes in detail just exactly how to tame a beast right after he uses it, but then later in the same book it is described again and no longer follows the same rules of cooldown, overall effect, or duration. I am not saying that you need to be perfect, but up until this point I have actually been a fan of this novel getting more notoriety as an actual fantasy novel and not just a niche market for a select few like myself. Now I have seen this book series evolve into an extremely well done fan fiction.
Anyone that has read my reviews knows that I like to start with the bad and then lead into the good. The overall character development was excellent in this book, not only for the main character, but also with the supporting characters and the general village. You really start to get a since of who he is and how he operates and interacts. Some of the pop culture references are hilarious, such as with the builder Roswan. The overall theme of the book seems to be right after you downloaded the Hearthhome expansion for Skyrim and you are sitting there grinding for materials and resources and even though you thought you were rich you start to realize just how expensive that house is going to be! Again overall great book, great up and coming author, good description, flow, and a lot of fun! The issue is with what I would call the author getting lazy with the fifth installment of an obviously long series and starting to make obvious mistakes that he could have easily corrected had he taken a little more time to put out the content. If you are reading this Aleron don't be discouraged me and another of my friends picked this series up at the same time independent of the other and tried to brag about it to the other simultaneously, it just became a "What part are you on? Did you get this reference?" discussion. Loved the book, couldn't put it down! Give it a shot, unless you don't like playing RPG games, or D&D, or are in general a dull and boring person, in which case you should read something else. ...more
