Alright Aleron, this is finally the point where you lose a star for your MC ignoring pragmatic rationality and becoming an emotional moron, then gets bailed out by the author, twice.
Case in point examples of good is stupid.
But as usual, the mc doesnt face the consequences for their foolishness. Rational choices are calles rational for a very good reason.
In respect of the rest of the book it still remains a 3 star, but rewarding stupidity remains one of the more irritating traits of some stories.

I liked this one, though it was perhaps a bit less interesting than the others. I still plan to go on and read the next one in the series. It's apretty good addition to the story line, and although I'm not real enthusiastic about the way our main character is getting to his goals, at least he's making progress. Should be interesting to see what happens in the next one.
