I've been meaning to read this collection for a couple of years, ever since hearing 'Understand' read on BBC Radio 4, and my only regret is that it has taken me so long to get around to it. To follow are reviews of the highlights, although all the stories were excellent.

I was amazed at the depth and originality of the worlds of each of these stories. The ones with Jewish influence struck me as especially novel in a genre so often confined to materialism. Some of the stories dragged a bit, and the one with the angels was way too dark for my liking, but overall I really enjoyed this collection.
