This is the collection containing the story that the movie Arrival was based on, which I LOVED. (A linguistics professor as protagonist? Played by Amy Adams?? Sign me UP.) I saw a lot of reviews that said they enjoyed the movie more than the story, but the story went deeper into the nerdy linguistic details, which I ate up with pleasure. It really made me want to watch the movie again, but I appreciated that the story gave it an additional dimension.

Really interesting bunch of stories (except the second which was...less interesting). Chiang has this amazing ability to take an almost gimmicky conceit and work through it to turn it into a fully fledged story. Story of Your Life was a standout, but I also really liked "Liking What You See: A Documentary" and it's prescient in its ability to understand how the early 21st century understands the world.
