What a lovely book! I have two other books by A.L.G. Bosboom-Toussaint, Het huis Lauernesse and Majoor Frans, but I haven't read either of them yet, which means Mejonkvrouwe de Mauléon was my way of 'getting acquainted' with the work of this author.
The first 20 pages or so are hard to get through, I admit, but after that the story takes off and the book is a real pleasure to read. The story had a rather unexpected ending, which allowed the author to tie up loose ends, and although it didn't make ...more
