I am not much of a rereader, but I was looking for a slam dunk comfort read and decided to do this in audio -since narrator Sopihie Eastlake is a favorite of mine. Even though her Dragos wasn't quite as deep and growly as he should have been, her Pia was wonderful -well author Harrison actually gets most of the credit for that. Pia totally makes the book. She has so much emotional range - from fearful to fearless -she is definitely a worthy replacement for the dragon's hoard. And I like how the initially timid Pia becomes a passionate women who can go toe to toe with an imperious dragon. This was just as entertaining the second time through.

Pia can't believe that she was gullible enough to have allowed that slimy toad of an 'ex' to blackmail her into stealing from a dragon - talk about suicidal. Ancient and powerful, Dragos is alternately incensed that someone has violated his lair, and a bit bemused by what was stolen and the note the thief left behind. But now the hunt is on and Dragos will stop at nothing until he's found the thief - and when he does, the thief is his.

Elder Races series starter Dragon Bound came highly recommended and for me it absolutely lived up to all of the great things that people have been saying - it was a great mixed paranormal world, including great supporting cast of griffins, fae, harpies and others, and above all a truly great leading lady (Pia) who had a very original secret, and even though Pia was not an overtly kick butt heroine, she was still able to hold her own against Dragos, a dominant dragon-shifting male who decided to add her to his horde. And even more appealing, Pia somehow managed to bring out the hero in Dragos - an ancient powerful creature who 'used to eat people'. The whole time I was reading Dragon Bound I was torn between wanting to gobble it straight down and wanting to savor it, knowing that there is a wait for the next excursion to author Harrison's world, Storm's Heart (A Novel of the Elder Races).

If you are at all a PNR fan and liked Singh's Angel's Blood but wished it had more romance (and a heroine with less psychological trauma in her past), go buy, beg, borrow or steal (well maybe not steal:) a copy of Dragon Bound right now. ...more

4.5 stars: Loved it as much as I do favs from Singh, Frost, Ione, etc.

I had never heard of this author before. I came across her name in Amazon's paranormal romance forum. She was getting some buzz as a good new PNR author. I'm thrilled that I found her! I've read all of the major PNR series and many of the minor ones, and I struggle to find new great books to read in the genre. I originally added this book to my to-read list because the hero, Dragos, was in an Alpha Showdown and (if I recall) got pretty far in the ranks. So I thought, might as well give it a try, right?

I read the first page, THE FIRST PAGE, and was hooked. I adored Pia. She was a great heroine - funny, smart, and the right amount of sarcastic sass. Not to mention, just all around awesome. Oh. My. Giddy. Aunt! This series is perfection, plain and simple. Thea Harrison is a FABULOUS writer, and has created an endlessly fascinating world of the Wyr/Elder Races. She could write them for the rest of her life, and I would never get tired of the stories. I am completely amazed at how much originality is in each story. Just loved them all!

This was a pleasant read. I did think the first half dragged before picking up. Pia was hilarious, smart, compassionate. Dragos was an alpha (but not an alpha-hole) and was likable. I enjoyed learning what type of Wyr Pia was. This also has a strong cast of supporting characters. (Some (all?) of whom get their own book.)

What an interesting and compelling blend of romance and fantasy.

There is one big scary hot dragon. Our mysterious heroine. Goblins. Elves. Fae. And a 1962 penny.

Snappy dialogue, a strong, likeable heroine and solid world building. It was all kinds of awesome.
