This book is phenomenal and a great portrait of not only an African-american family and community dynamic but a rural picture. This book also highlights the strength of women who are constantly oppressed by society and their roles within their families--they are able to find their own strength and carve out their own sense of fulfillment and happiness, when most would wither and die under the pressure of oppression.
