It is an amazing book ! . Siddhartha Mukherjee delves into explaining cancer and our battle against it in a comprehensive and lucid manner . It sweeps across the historical , political, social and scientific trajectories in tackling this disease. While , not shying away completely from scientific details , it is hardly pedantic, and certainly keeps the reader very engaged. In my apparent love of Sweeping Social Histories of Just One Thing this thorough history of cancer rates right up there. I still believe everyone should be well versed in the history of whatever they do if they ever have hopes of making a difference, of seeing things in a new light, of making discoveries and connections. Seeing how things that now seem obvious were so very not obvious before, and all the other paths people have ventured down, is essential. And fascinating.
