If I imagine this entire book is actually the novel that Samuel is writing, and things that take place are actually him taking strong creative liberties with the story of his and his mother’s lives, well, I would actually rate this higher because that’s quite clever. But I guess I read it more straightforwardly and found it unnecessarily long. Like the author wanted to jam in unhelpful storylines just because he did a bunch of research on the ‘60s.
