The first audio book I've ever listened to. Whilst it is a very interesting experience I kept falling asleep!
I do love the story, I believe Neil Gaiman is a very good story weaver. A very interesting mixture of mythologies and the modern world. I think I'm going to have to pick up the book one day to enjoy the story properly or at least I have to perfect my listening skill :) ...more

American Gods
, by Neil Gaiman, is definitely an interesting read. This was the first of his books that I had picked up, and I did so because I really enjoyed the movie
Stardust
. I had heard that, amazingly, that book wasn't quite as good as the movie, so American Gods caught my interest instead.

I love the whole idea underpinning this book that it is human belief that brings gods into existence. I also loved that Gaiman chose a mixture of "big name" gods, and ones that American and British readers may be less likely to have heard of.
The story is a little weird and wandering, but I loved the way he explores the way old cultures and traditions are falling away in favor of the culture of technology and the internet. There's a wonderful moment where Media is compared to Medea, which always ...more
